How exciting our first garden visit...........
We were greeted by Judy and John Mahar on arrival at Mayward Homestead. A lovely couple who have managed to create a wonderful garden up in the hills just out of Tuaranga. It turned out to be alot cooler and damp then expected as the property is nestled quite close to the Kaimai ranges. As I came in shorts and sandels Judy very kindly gave a few of us jackets to wear.
We wondered around there 20 acre garden with Judy as our guide pointing out her plantings of rhododendrons, azaleas, maples, hostas, irises and azalea mollises. Around the large pond and to the gazebo which looks out over a large lawn area.

Past the vege patch and very cute rustic chicken house.

Then through the short bush walk beside a sparkling stream which meanders through stunning native bush this adds a special interest to this unique garden.
Very impressive garden, and even more impressive they create and maintain it on there own.
